Managing “Mean Girl” Behavior

Referred to by psychologists as “relational aggression”, mean girl behavior is anything from the formation of social cliques, to spreading rumors and lies, to ostracizing and exclusion, to emotional manipulation and sometimes even physical aggression. At the very core of this behavior is insecurity – the need to derive self worth and value by making others feel lesser than. It is about establishing and maintaining power and social status within a group.
